Daddy Pak Corp., started by me, Gerard Bonner, was created to help other fathers with some of the same frustrations of fatherhood that I had. As a father and a NYC firefighter, I participate actively in the upbringing and caretaking of my children. Since alot of firemen have the opportunity to spend more time with their kids, I asked some of my friends what they would look for in a diaper bag. I spent over a year developing a product that could offer functionality, style, and comfort and still be masculine and compact.
I was uncomfortable carrying around the typical "mom" diaper bag when I was out with my kids. Having 2, very active boys, I found it difficult to keep up with them and have my hands free. We would be at the playground and I would keep their stuff in the bottom of the stroller. It wasn't long before one of them wanted a snack or juice or milk and I would have to drag them back to the carriage, kicking and screaming, just to get it. After trying numerous styles of diaper bags, I did not find anything that I liked in the "Daddy products" that were out there, so I started playing around with a mountain biking bag I had, and that's how this all got started. Today we, see more and more fathers becoming "Mr. Mom" and sharing in the caregiving of their children, especially with both spouses working.
Our first Daddy Pak line, the DB-101, is designed after a popular fanny pack style, mountain bike sport bag, which offers a hands free way to carry around the necessities for today's on the go lifestyles. Keeping things simple usually works out for the best, especially when kids are involved. This design type is not offered yet in the dad gear marketplace and we have had a 99% approval rating in our market research (497 out of 500). After I had my first prototype made and started wearing it and testing it out, I immediately had people asking me where did I get that and how could they get one. It's perfect for those quick trips to the store or walks to the park, playground or zoo. We have had mother's and grandmothers who do not want to carry anything heavy on their shoulders express alot of interest.
In addition to the current choices, we will soon be adding some cool prints, along with a mom and grandparent version. Also coming soon is a backpack style, a messenger bag style, and a satchel style. Accessories will include an adjustable shoulder strap for extra support, changing pad, and a gift packaging that will be a starter kit. We are currently pursuing a licensing agreement to provide some favorite sports logos and collegiate designs.
